It appears, having continued with some research that this particular
engine was a boost unit for either a C-46 or a DC-3

It would have been installed in a nacelle of its own (any leads most gratefully appreciated and suitably rewarded) and under slung either the ventral fuselage
of the DC-3, or it would have been one of a pair slung, one under each wing of
the C-46 Curtis Commando

Many thanks to two fellow engine enthusiasts in Czech and Germany
an immaculate and original annular oil tank has been sourced and has
arrived save and sound.

This little Palas engine is the most highly prized engine that I have ever owned. Many have been more valuable and many have been much more impressive, but
this little engine is the very one for which I have been searching for as long
as I have held an interest in them. I used to sit in fifth form at school gazing
at pictures of the Palas engine and it has taken me this long to come up with one.
It may be a few runs, inhibiting and then a display case for this one I think.
