Turbomeca Palouste 1 restoration

New arrival - Turbomeca Palouste 1 of February 1952

This engine is exceedingly rare, possibly the rarest engine that I have ever had in my collection. It appears that it is the very engine that was initially supplied byTurbomeca to Blackburn and General Aircraft Limted and tested on one of the experimental test beds (a converted reciprocating engine test cell) prior to negotiating a licence to build them in the UK.

This engine was built by Turbomeca in 1952 and was shipped to, and run in Brough during November of same year (Click for article). She was used first to gain operating experience and to run a 1000 hr test which it completed. That this is the original engine supplied by Turbomeca is further bolstered by the fact that this engine is Metric. Brough produced engines were "Anglicised" and featured various alterations to British fits and tollerances and a change over to unified threads.

The licensed production Palouste engines were tested in production cell 3 at Brough.
A drawing of which can be seen here.
